Hi, I’m Monique doherty.

My journey to become a therapist…

Like many therapists out there, my decision to become a therapist is rooted by personal experiences. I have been fortunate enough to experience many positive experiences with therapists, social workers, and human service professionals; and I have unfortunately also experienced difficult and negative experiences with therapists, social workers, and human service professionals. When I was ready to embark on my higher education, I knew I wanted to go into this field to be one of those therapists who made me feel heard and honored my voice. I graduated with my Master of Clinical Social Work from Saint Louis University in 2019.

Why I switched from talk therapy to alternative psychotherapies…

Also like many therapists out there, I started my clinical work utilizing more traditional talk therapy modalities. I saw first hand, that while these modalities worked for some individuals, many of my clients appeared to not respond and needed more. Throughout my ongoing trainings, research, and continuing education requirements, I learned about EMDR. I went on to complete EMDR training, in addition to other supplementary trainings, and I have been hooked ever since. These “bottom-up” approaches to treatment provided a noticeable difference to my clients rather than the “top-down” talk therapy modalities I used for years.

Outside of the therapist role, you can find me…

Parenting my two teenagers, loving my three adorable cats, camping, hiking, paddle boarding. traveling, or having a lazy day on the couch playing my Nintendo Switch or engaging in some other cozy activity (I love sticker by number books).
