Polyvagal Theory

What is Polyvagal Theory?

Created by Dr. Stephen Porges, Polyvagal Theory describes the physiological states connected to our mental/emotional states. Utilizing this theory allows us to understand and learn how to better regulate ourselves when our nervous system is dysregulated. You can learn more about Polyvagal Theory here.

How do we incorporate Polyvagal Theory into therapy for depression?

When treating depression, it is important to consider what is happening to us not only in our minds, but also physically. Polyvagal Theory helps us understand what is going on with our nervous system when in a depressive state and what we need to do from a neurobiological point to get out of that depressive state.
